Irina Bekmirzaeva - speaker of CACCC 2020

The Third Central Asia Climate Change Conference (CACCC 2020) will be held online on October 19-23, 2020. The objective of the conference is to strengthen a regional dialogue on climate change and sustainable development through the information and knowledge exchange in Central Asia. A series of our publications will be dedicated to the speakers of the upcoming event. And, today, we would like to introduce you to Irina Bekmirzaeva, Manager for Regional Coordination Unit of the CAREC project “Program on Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Program for the Aral Sea Basin” (CAMP4ASB) funded by the World Bank. Her presentation on the role of climate finance in achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement in Central Asia will be held at the thematic session of the final day of CACCC 2020, October 23, 2020. Irina Bekmirzaeva will also speak at the closing session of the conference and will be the facilitator for the thematic session on October 22, 2020.

Speaker

Since November 2018 till present, Irina Bekmirzaeva holds the position of Program Manager “Climate Change and Sustainable Energy” at CAREC and Manager for Regional Coordination Unit of the Program on Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Program for the Aral Sea Basin (CAMP4ASB).

Since December 2016 to 2018, Irina Bekmirzaeva has been holding a position of Environment and Health Program Manager at the Regional Environmental Center of Central Asia.

Furthermore, Irina Bekmirzaeva has:

• two university degrees in Linguistics and Law;
• 25 years of progressive responsible professional experience;
• 20 years of which are in managerial positions for public and international organisations;
• working experience in the State Committee on Nature Protection of the Republic of Uzbekistan and UNDP Uzbekistan managing international projects on sustainable development, including issues of biodiversity conservation, climate change, land degradation and combat with desertification.

In 2014 she has gained recognition by one of the prestigious international Fund “Energy Globe” (Austrian business cycles, UNEP and UNESCO) and become a winner of the “National ENERGY GLOBE Award Uzbekistan 2014 Winner” upon the successful implementation of the multi-disciplinary joint Project of the UNDP and Government of Uzbekistan aimed to improve livelihood and create income generating opportunities for low income households in disaster area of Aral Sea catastrophe (Aralkum and Kyzylkum Deserts).
