Makhtumkuli Akmuradov - speaker of CACCC 2021

The Fourth Central Asia Climate Change Conference (CACCC 2021) will be held on July 26-27, 2021, in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The conference will be conducted as a mix of in-person and virtual meetings.

The objective of the conference is to strengthen the regional dialogue, information and knowledge exchange in order to support climate-resilient evidence-based decision-making systems, as well as to explore the possibilities to ensure the synergy in climate projects implementation between international finance organisations and the development agencies in Central Asia.

 A series of our publications will be dedicated to the speakers and moderators of the upcoming event. And, today, we would like to introduce you to Makhtumkuli Akmuradov, Advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on environmental and water diplomacy. He will be a speaker at the thematic session on climate policy and the role of civil society.


Speaker

Mr. Akmuradov is an Advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on environmental and water diplomacy. 

About his previous professional path. He started his career as a Senior Laboratory Assistant at the Institute of Geology of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan in 1984; until 1996 he studied as a Post Graduated Student and worked as a Junior Research Assistant and Senior Research Assistant at the same institute. Then, he worked as the Head of the Department of the Ministry of Nature Management and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan, the Head of the UNDP national program for environmental protection in Turkmenistan. Later, he held the position of acting head of the information and international relations department of the Ministry of Nature Protection of Turkmenistan, then, - the Head of the same department.

From 2001 to 2005, he was the Deputy Minister of Nature Protection of Turkmenistan.

From 2005 2009, he worked as the Minister of Nature Protection of Turkmenistan.

In October 2009, he was transferred to work at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

Prior to his current position, namely from 24.02.2010 to 15.02.2016, he worked as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Moreover, Mr. Akmuradov took an active part in the elaboration of the following programs: National Program for Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan 1999, Caspian Environmental Program 2003, Concept of the UN Special Program for the Aral Sea in 2018; Aral Sea Basin Program-4 in 2020; Concept of the New Caspian Environmental Program 2020; Aral National Program 2021.
