The Fourth Central Asia Climate Change Conference (CACCC-2021) will be held on July 26-27, 2021, in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The conference will be conducted as a mix of in-person and virtual meetings.
The objective of the conference is to strengthen the regional dialogue, information and knowledge exchange in order to support climate-resilient evidence-based decision-making systems, as well as to explore the possibilities to ensure the synergy in climate projects implementation between international finance organizations and the development agencies in Central Asia.
A series of our publications will be dedicated to the speakers and moderators of the upcoming event. And, today, we would like to introduce you to Paola Agostini, a Lead Natural Resources Management Specialist in the World Bank’s Europe and Central Asia Region Environment, Natural Resources, and Blue Economy Global Practice (ENB ECA). She will be a speaker at the CACCC-2021 thematic session on climate financing.
Paola Agostini is a Lead Natural Resources Management Specialist in the World Bank’s Europe and Central Asia Region Environment, Natural Resources, and Blue Economy Global Practice (ENB ECA). Paola leads programs on Climate, Environment and Green Growth and projects in Central Asia that help to reverse land degradation and increase the resilience of people, ecosystems, and infrastructure. She also works in the Black Sea region on a program to reduce pollution and increase resilience to climate change. Additionally, Paola is coordinating the ECCA30 partnership for the World Bank with a special focus to restore 30 million hectares of degraded landscapes by 2030 in Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia. Previously, she was the Global Lead for Forests, Landscapes, and Ecosystems for the World Bank, working on projects and programs that aim to improve the connectivity of protected Areas, forests, agroforestry, rangeland, and agricultural land for increased productivity.
Paola coordinated TerrAfrica, a regional partnership program in over 26 Sub-Saharan countries that promotes Sustainable Land and Water Management and served as the coordinator for the GEF Program in Latin America and Africa, overseeing a portfolio of over 100 projects dealing with climate change, biodiversity, land degradation, chemicals, and international waters.
Besides, Paola Agostini holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California San Diego, and an MA in Economic and Social Sciences from Universita Bocconi, Milan, Italy.
