Viorel Gutu - speaker of CACCC 2021

The Fourth Central Asia Climate Change Conference (CACCC 2021) will be held on July 26-27, 2021, in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The conference will be conducted as a mix of in-person and virtual meetings.

The objective of the conference is to strengthen the regional dialogue, information and knowledge exchange in order to support climate-resilient evidence-based decision-making systems, as well as to explore the possibilities to ensure the synergy in climate projects implementation between international finance organisations and the development agencies in Central Asia.

 A series of our publications will be dedicated to the speakers and moderators of the upcoming event. And, today, we would like to introduce you to Viorel Gutu, Director, FAO Subregional Office for Central Asia in Ankara (Turkey). He will be a speaker of the CACCC 2021 opening session.


Speaker

Viorel Gutu - FAO's Subregional Coordinator for Central Asia and FAO Representative for Turkey and Uzbekistan. Viorel Gutu has gained over 20 years of experience in agricultural development, enterprise restructuring, structural reforms, and private business development through his involvement in the public and private sector, and implementation of international projects.

He joined FAO in 2014 as the head of FAO Tajikistan office, leading the country office in establishing productive relations with the national government and with key donors including the European Union and Japan International Cooperation Agency.

Before joining FAO, Gutu was Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry in Moldova. In this position, he was responsible for the coordination, monitoring and evaluation of strategic policy implementation in agriculture and rural development. He also served as economic affairs officer with the United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor, where he dealt with peacekeeping operations, poverty alleviation and prevention of the emergency situations. He holds a doctoral degree in economics.
